Memory Oils Ltd has developed a unique range of naturally scented oils designed to improve learning. Research has shown how the subconscious sense of smell can powerfully evoke memories and improve recall; it is just this link that Memory Oils is using to enhance students’ recall.
There are 19 oils, each one designed to be subject specific. Anthony Padgett, a chartered physiotherapist came up with the idea after discussing with his own teenage children how smells brought back very distinctive memories for them. ‘I began developing a series of oils to help my children recall information when they were revising,’ he explains, ‘so maths, for example, might be linked to the scent of grapefruit. It was amazingly effective!’
When a subject is being studied at home, the fragrance associated with that subject is introduced by being applied directly on to the skin or in a diffuser. At a later date, during an exam, that same smell can be recalled, on a tissue for instance. This will take the student back to their revision and recall is enhanced.
The oils can be ordered through the website www.memoryoils.co.uk. They are high quality, organic, pure essential oils.
“Thank you very much for introducing Memory Oils Ltd to me. A very interesting direction to develop, and anything that might assist people (children / adults) in building memory and association is to be welcomed. Memory training is extremely conspicuous by its absence in the vast majority of schools.”

“The innovative way that memory oils help to enhance working memory through smell truly supports the multi sensory approach to the teaching of children and young persons with dyslexia”

AquaShots Underwater Photography provides parents of water loving children a portrait photography experience with the most unique
perspective. During each portrait session both child and photographer are completely under water just long enough to take a photograph.
Sessions are held in swimming pools within Lancashire during and after swimming lessons and offer a range of submerged poses for all ages and skill levels. Under water techniques such as swimming, navigation through a hoop and picking up a brick can be captured.
Government swimming pools have opened their doors and embraced this revolutionary method of visual communication to assist in promoting the importance of water awareness to parents and encourage swimming lessons for children.
The National Center for Health Statistics states that drowning is the nation’s second-leading cause of injury-related death for children. To keep water fun from turning into tragedy, experts say the best thing children and adults can do to stay safe in and near water is to learn to swim. Parents and older children also should learn CPR.
AquaShots Photographer Anne-Marie Tomlinson says “In addition to the safety issue, children work hard to achieve their swimming certificates but unlike most other sports, parents don’t have the opportunity to see it, AquaShots has developed this unique concept to record these important achievements.”
