2007 was a fantastic year for single mum Emma Rice, as it welcomed the birth of not just one, but two babies.
Whilst on maternity leave, Emma’s employment came to an end as the company she was working for full time went into administration. After two previous similar experiences Emma decided enough was enough – she was going to take control of her own future. What followed next was the birth of BabyRice!
The BabyRice idea was born from a personal experience. “After being slightly disappointed following the purchase of a baby casting kit, I did some research and knew I could better what was available at the time, so away I went!.” Emma told Flying Start.
Having a new baby did not hold Emma back as she spent every available waking moment working hard to ensure her new DIY keepsake casting venture was a success. The hours in-between her new baby’s sleeping pattern were spent at the computer researching and purchasing only the best quality products. Two days solid work over Christmas was even required to get BabyRice’s new items online. Emma’s hard work started to pay off as the company grew rapidly in the first few years. Constant research was carried out looking into new products and product combinations to ensure the range stood out from the rest.
Five years down the line and BabyRice’s ingredients now consist of a team of six including Emma. They entered the baby gift market offering a fantastic baby casting product and now the range has extended to offer new parents and parents-to- be exciting products such as belly casting kits, baby casting kits, fingerprint jewellery, keepsake boxes and a unique choice of beautiful baby presents.
Despite the baby gift and keepsake market being one of the most competitive and crowded markets to launch into, Emma’s belief into quality being of uppermost importance has been the backbone of her growth and success. “There’s a lot more competition out there for similar products, but there is now also more awareness of the type and quality of products we are selling.” said Emma. Finances are tight for new parents, but BabyRice realise this and offer a shop by price navigation choice on their website, selling baby print kits from as little as £3.95. Emma added: “The current recession is keeping growth to a minimum at the moment, although there seems to be a baby boom setting in!”
BabyRice plan to continue to grow at a steady pace as they work on introducing new and exciting products to their range. In fact, they have something up their sleeves at this very moment, so be sure to watch this space!
