A+ for Aplay’s Outdoor Equipment Installations

Although only established in 2010, Aplay have built a reputation for exceptional standards of groundwork and safety surfacing projects as well as the installation of outdoor play equipment. We talked with co-founder, Diane Robertshaw about the business.

Aplay are based in Otley near Leeds and began life with just two members of staff, one van and one order. In less than two years, the business had progressed so well, even in the current economic situation, that Diane and co-founder James Thompson now employ seven members of staff with three vehicles and have a growing customer base not just in the Leeds area but nationwide.

Diane and James feel that training and skill are some of the most important factors in the service they provide and all of their staff are highly qualified in construction skills and the ability to use appropriate machinery. Alongside these qualifications go others in site safety and first aid. The company holds Safe Contractor and Constructionline Certificates, CHAS (Contractors Health and Safety Scheme) certification as well as a Waste Transfer Licence.

The tough economic challenges faced by all prospective customers can be eased by Aplay’s ability to provide site visits, CAD drawings, play equipment, groundwork, safety surfacing and all aspects of installation. This means that Aplay can offer a One-Stop Shop facility enabling prices to be kept as low as possible by cutting out costly sub-contractors and give the customer one point of contact.

Having said that, Aplay are equally at home working with other suppliers if the customer requires it and have collaborated with playground equipment suppliers on projects for schools, nurseries and local councils.

Diane and James are continually looking at new products in order to develop the business and have recently introduced Rubber Mulch Surfacing which is made from 100% recycled rubber tyres. As well as the benefits to the customer, this also provides a “green” alternative to bark and a number of other advantages in durability and safety.

Diane and James told Flying Start, “An additional ability is one of providing Inspection & Maintenance Packages, carried out by our in house RPII (Register of Play Inspectors International) Operatives Inspector. This provides peace of mind that all facilities are in good working order and early detection where problems might show up.”

Aplay work to the recognised European Safety Standard BS EN1176 and all installations are guaranteed for 5 years. You can contact Aplay by phone on 01943 850472, by email on aplay@hotmail.co.uk or through their web site www.aplay.co.uk Aplay can also be found on Facebook and Twitter.
