The Rogers family has prided itself in constant re-investment in the Langstone Cliff Hotel since its opening days 64 years ago in 1947. Here Flying Start takes a closer look at the story behind one family’s amazing work and achievements in creating this perfect family retreat in the heart of Devon.
The Langstone Cliff hotel set in 19 acres of child-friendly woodland wasn’t built in a day, nor was it built in a year. In fact the Rogers have been building the hotel over the past 12 years!
In 1999 the Rogers put together a major improvements plan which they anticipated would take five years. It all started with the cancellation of two weddings back-to-back which gave them a window of opportunity to completely refurbish the ballroom and bar. Next followed the Washington and poolside bedrooms which involved new bathrooms, ceilings, lighting, furniture, carpets and bedding. Once work had finished on the bedrooms, the pool was next.
That’s not all that the Langstone Cliff Hotel achieved in 1999, that year also saw the launch of their brand new website www.langstone-hotel.co.uk
They were so over joyed with the improvements they simply just didn’t stop! Work on the hotel continued throughout 2000 and in 2001 all the bedrooms that hadn’t received the Rogers treatment were refurbished.
It didn’t stop there either. After the building of the Lincoln bar, new office space, a tourist information centre, a re-styled main entrance hall and re-furbished garden room, verandah, lounges, drawing room, poolside room and Woodland room came the most technically difficult alteration they had tackled – remodeling the whole of the sea-facing front of the hotel!
Since then improvements have continued, from further major extensions and new complexes to small improvements such as installing Wi-Fi B
roadband.
These improvements have made the Langstone Cliff Hotel one of the most top quality family hotels in the UK boasting its 19 acres of child friendly woodland setting and fantastic health and leisure facilities including indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools, a fitness room, sports facilities, hairdressing and a beautician and holistic therapist.
Not only for families, the hotel is also perfect for conferences, weddings and all celebrations and hosts regular jazz and dance weekends throughout the year.
